Police Seek Suspect in String of West Village Restaurant Burglaries

By Jess Wisloski | December 2, 2012 2:42pm

GREENWICH VILLAGE — Police are hunting for a man responsible for six commercial burglaries, five of which took place at local restaurants.

The burglar broke into the locations by throwing a brick at the glass front doors overnight while the businesses were closed, and forcing his way in.

Grand Sichuan Restaurant, on Seventh Avenue South, was the first eatery burglarized, on Nov. 12, at 9 a.m. The burglar stole cash and a laptop before fleeing the location.

The burglar then hit three shops early the morning of Nov. 20, between 12:53 and 1:25 a.m. — Barrio Restaurant on Eighth Avenue, clothing store Saturdays Surf NY on Perry Street, and Leyla Restaurant on Seventh Avenue — taking an unidentified amount of cash from each location.

At 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 25, the burglar ripped off Bedford Street Middle Eastern eatery Moustache Restaurant an undisclosed amount of cash, before striking yet again at Diablo Royale Restaurant on West 10th Street, Nov. 28, at 1:25 a.m. taking off with cash and three iPods.

The suspect is described as 28 to 32 years of age, weighing 225 to 275 pounds with a large build. He was last seen wearing light clothing and carrying a bookbag.

Anyone with information in regards to these incidents is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
