New Alvin Ailey App Helps Spectators Pick the Perfect Performance

By Mary Johnson | November 30, 2012 5:01pm

MIDTOWN — Picking a dance performance to suit every taste and occasion just got a little easier.

The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has launched a new app available through the dance company's website that offers customized performance recommendations for prospective ticket holders.

The app, titled "Ask Robert Battle," features the dance company's artistic director helping patrons select Alvin Ailey performances targeted to their specific tastes by asking them four questions.

The questions include how many Alvin Ailey performances the app users have seen, whether they are looking for a romantic night or a family outing, whether they prefer live music, new works, classics or interactive shows and what type of music they enjoy.

When all the questions have been answered, the site delivers a list of performances that cater to each patron's criteria.

The dance company, which performs in Midtown at New York City Center, kicked off its 2012 season on Nov. 28. It will run through Dec. 30.
