'Eat Like A Man' Cook-Off Brings Masculine Meals to Midtown

By Mathew Katz | November 27, 2012 6:43am

MIDTOWN — This food will put hair on your chest.

Boston and New York will face off in a manly culinary grudge match on Thursday as part of the first-ever "Eat Like a Man Competition" at the Muse Hotel.

The contest will pit Jay Silva of Cambridge, Mass.-based Bambara Restaurant against Jarett Brodie and Jair Solis of Midtown's Nios Restaurant in a battle to create the most masculine meal — though what makes food manly is left to the chef's interpretation.

The five course cook-off begins on Thursday with a reception at 5:30 p.m., followed by the ringside spectacle at 6:30 p.m. Each course comes with a drink pairing, organizers noted.

Ingredients for the contest are a closely guarded secret, but there's certain not to be a shortage of meat.

The event is being held in conjunction with Movember, the annual mustache-growing fundraisers that raises awareness for men's health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.

In addition to the contest, Nios Restaurant is offering manly specials all night, including James Bond's signature "Shaken, Not Stirred Martini," along with Pork Osso Bucco macaroni and cheese.

Tickets for the competition, at the Muse Hotel located at 130 W. 46th St., are $100, with $20 donated to Movember. For reservations, call 212-485-2999 or email darius.shalforoosh@themusehotel.com.
