Man Shot to Death in Gowanus

GOWANUS — A 43-year-old man was found dead on a street in Gowanus Saturday morning, and another man was rushed to a nearby hospital with a gunshot wound, police said.

The unidentified victim was found at 7:19 a.m. with a bullet in his head on Butler Street near Third Avenue, by police responding to calls of a man shot at the location. He was declared dead at the scene.

Robert Walker, 62, who has lived in the neighborhood for seven years, called police when he heard the melee on the street.

"It was one shot, then a few seconds later you could hear a chase, and people shouting back at each other," he said.

"Then it just opened up rapid fire, at least 10 or 15 shots. I couldn't see it because my windows were closed, and I wasn't about to stick my head out either."

The other victim, 33, was brought to Methodist Hospital in a private vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds in his torso. The surviving victim was in stable condition, police said.

The NYPD did not yet have information regarding suspects or any possible motives, but said an investigation was ongoing.
