Skeeball Kicks Off Fall Season in WIlliamsburg

By Meredith Hoffman | October 5, 2012 8:06am

WILLIAMSBURG — Looking for an autumn sport to console you as the temperature starts to drop?

It's not too late to jump on the fall "skeeson" of Brewskee-Ball, the sport's founder Eric Pavony counseled.

"The skeeson just kicked off this week," he said of the skeeball league at Grand Street's Full Circle Bar, which he said started the first national league of the sport. "The good times continue to roll."

Groups of three can register to compete in the bowling-like carnival game, which already has 75 teams registered (and only has open spots left on Sundays, Pavony noted).

"It's become a living breathing social network...you have 200 like-minded young people coming to a bar per week," he praised the culture of the game. "It's really a blast...we've brought skeeball lanes to weddings for couples who met playing."

Brewskee-Ball, which Pavony founded in 2005 at Full Circle and which has now expanded around the country "from skee to shining skee," involves two teams going head-to-head on each bowling lane in a "skeeson" that lasts eight weeks.

And to register, teams only need email their "witty name" and list of three rollers to Pavony, he said of the bar game.

"It's not a drinking game in the traditional sense...each team has their own tradition with drinking...people can drink at their own leisure and as much as they want," Pavony said.

And the finalists will compete to be champion, at the Brewskee Mud tournament, he noted.

Teams can register by emailing join@brewskeeball.com. Participation in the league costs $100 per roller.
