Animal Collective Cancels Williamsburg Show Hours Before Start Time

By Meredith Hoffman | October 5, 2012 4:07pm

WILLIAMSBURG — Animal Collective abruptly canceled its giant outdoor show planned for Friday evening, delivering stunned fans the news just hours before the band was supposed to take the stage by the Williamsburg waterfront.

"We really wish we didn’t have to be writing this right now, but after taking Dave to the doctor this morning it turns out that he has laryngitis and unfortunately we are unable to play the show tonight," the group wrote on their Facebook page about their founding member Dave Portner. "We are already in the middle of trying to reschedule [New York] dates in the next couple of months to make up for this cancellation."

Within minutes the announcement began circulating around the Internet, and hundreds of fans posted on the group's Facebook page about their disappointment.

"Not going to lie, this is such a letdown," wrote Kelsey Sauce-Boss Halloran. "I wish you the fastest recovery...But I have been working my ass off all day [seven] days a week and drove [six] hours to be here tonight. Seeing you guys play are the one thing that could have taken all of my anxieties away and realigned me before heading into the endless cycle of academia and work."

And another fan simply lamented, "NOOOO THIS WAS ALL I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO IN LIFE."

Animal Collective said that ticket buyers could get refunds from the outlets where they purchased their tickets (unless, of course, they were through Craigslist).

"Our sincere apologies to fans anticipating this show," they wrote. "We are always psyched to play NYC and will make it up to you."
