Muhammad Ali, Alec Baldwin Honor Writers at Norman Mailer Center Gala

COLUMBUS CIRCLE — Muhammad Ali knows greatness when he sees it.

The legendary boxer, and close friend of the late Norman Mailer, made a rare apperance to honor a young writer at the Norman Mailer Center Gala last night at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

Evin Hughes was presented with the inaugural Muhammad Ali Ethics Award for his essay, “Float Like a Plane, Sting Like a Bomb: The Ethics of U.S. Drone Attacks,” the Daily News reported.

Also attending the event were Alec Baldwin, who introduced Ali, Keri Hilson, Garrison Keillor, DIck Cavett, Gay Talese, Robert Caro, Joyce Carol Oates, Oliver Stone and more.
