Wind Knocks Down Wooden Fence in Midtown, Injuring 1

MIDTOWN — One person was hurt when a gust of wind knocked down a wooden fence on Madison Avenue Tuesday afternoon, officials said.

The fence, which surrounded a vacant lot at Madison Avenue and East 33rd Street, blew onto the sidewalk about 3:50 p.m., striking a man who was walking past it, NYPD and FDNY officials said.

The man suffered minor injuries and was taken to Bellevue Hospital, an FDNY spokesman said.

The NYPD responded and blocked off the area, removing the fence from the sidewalk by 5:30 p.m.

Forecasters warned of strong winds and possibly even a tornado Tuesday, as a line of storms moved through the city.
