ASTORIA — Fall is coming, but Astoria Park is still full of trash left there after the summer, community activists say.

This Saturday, volunteers from the area will gather to clean up the debris that accumulated in the park and along Shore Boulevard.

The annual clean up is part of Day of Service in Remembrance of 9/11

“Everyone that would like to volunteer, come down to clean up the shore line, we would like to have you,” said Antonio Meloni of New York Anti Crime Agency that organizes the event with Green Shores NYC and the Astoria Park Alliance.

At the beginning of the cleanup there will be a short wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial in honor of those who perished on 9/11.

Volunteers will meet at 10 a.m. in Astoria Park (19th Street and 22nd Drive). The clean up will end at 1 p.m.
