STATEN ISLAND — A school bus carrying eight children collided with a van in Dongan Hills early Wednesday, the FDNY said.

The crash happened at Richmond Road and Delaware Street just before 7:30 a.m., a fire official said.

Emergency crews evacuated the children from the bus, the official said.

Three people suffered minor injuries, but it was unclear if any of the children were hurt, the spokesman said.

They were taken to  Staten Island University Hospital.

There were no immediate details about the occupants of the van.

The Department of Education could not be immediately reached for comment.

The accident is at least the second this week involving a school bus. On Monday, a school bus transporting eight children special needs collided with a car in Woodside.

It was at least the fifth this year that a school bus carrying passengers with special needs was involved in a crash.
