CHELSEA — A 36-year-old woman was struck and killed by a Manhattan E train on Saturday afternoon, police and fire officials said.

The woman, who had not been identified Sunday, was on a southbound platform at 23rd Street near Eighth Avenue, when it appeared that she leaped in front of the train at 12 p.m., police said. She was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, but pronounced dead at the hospital.

Police had not yet released her identity Saturday, but said it did not appear that criminality was involved, and that it appeared that the woman had jumped.
