Man Stabbed Outside Park Slope Diner

PARK SLOPE — A 41-year-old restaurant worker was stabbed several times in the stomach and chest outside a popular Brooklyn diner early Saturday, officials said.

The victim, who was not identified immediately by police, was found unconscious outside Dizzy's at Eighth Avenue and 9th Street with multiple stab and slashing wounds in his arms, chest, stomach and back at 2:19 a.m., an FDNY spokesman said.

Workers who gathered outside the shuttered Park Slope diner on Saturday morning, said the man had worked at the restaurant.

"He's a nice guy," said one worker, who would not offer his name. He said the victim had worked at the restaurant for two years. The restaurant would reopen for Sunday's brunch service, the man said.

The victim was transported in critical condition to Kings County Hospital, and an investigation was ongoing, police said.

Regular customer Alexis Arkus-Duntov, 40, the director of operations at a tech company, found the attack worrisome.

"It's very distressing. I'm familiar with many of the employees since I come here every day," said Arkus-Duntov, who has lived in the neighborhood over a year, and eats at Dizzy's every day.

"It's a very safe neighborhood," he said. "It's a family-oriented restaurant. They're very loyal to their regulars and they have many regulars."

"It's just so out of character for the block, for the restaurant," he added. "This is a place where people come to feed their kids."
