MANHATTAN — It's "Speed" for the Big Apple bike-messenger set.

The life of a New York City bike courier is something Joseph Gordon-Levitt learned while filming the thriller "Premium Rush," which premiered last night in Union Square.

The film, which was plagued with mishaps and injuries during production, features "Dark Knight Rises" star Gordon-Levitt as a bike messenger who, after picking up a package at Columbia University, is chased through the city by a corrupt police officer played by "Boardwalk Empire" star Michael Shannon.

Co-stars Dania Ramirez, Jamie Chung, Wole Parks and Kym Perfetto — a former bike messenger-turned-SoulCycle guru — turned up for the premiere. Other guests included Tony Danza, Ed Asner and Christopher McDonald.

The film is in theaters now.
