Two-Alarm Fire Breaks Out in Mariners Harbor Church on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND — A two-alarm fire broke out in a Staten Island church Thursday afternoon, officials said.

The blaze started about 4 p.m. at Convent Chapel, a two-story church at 110 Van Pelt Ave. in Mariners Harbor, an FDNY spokesman said.

The fire also spread to an adjacent building at 114 Van Pelt Ave., the spokesman said.

More than 100 firefighters responded and brought the blaze under control by 4:55 p.m., the FDNY said.

No injuries were immediately reported.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
