The Village is home to some of the best restaurants in New York City, but you don't need to empty your wallet enjoy a good meal there. 1. Tacos Hidalgo
Where: Washington Square South and LaGuardia Place, across from the Skirball Center
When: Monday - Friday, 11 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Must try: Chicken tacos

Least expensive menu item: $2 for a tamale
Most expensive menu items: $8 for enchiladas, fajitas or nachos con carne
2. Wafels & Dinges
Where and when: East 14th Street and Third Avenue, Tuesdays from 6-10 p.m., Thursdays from 6 p.m. - midnight; Union Square, Broadway and East 13th Street, Wednesdays 6 - 10 p.m.; Astor Place, Thursdays 6 p.m. - 1 a.m., Fridays, 6 p.m. - 1 a.m.; and Broadway and Prince Street, Saturday, 8 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.
Must try: Anything with Nutella
Specialty menu items: Savory waffles, including the chili con corne waffle, or one one with bacon and syrup
Least expensive menu item: The mini wafelini (waffle) costs either $3 or $4, depending upon if you order plain or “choco-dipped.” Also, the first topping is free.
Most expensive menu items: $8.50 for the BBQ pulled pork waffle.
3. Van Leeuwen Ice Cream Truck
Where: University Place and East 12th Street
When: Everyday, 5 p.m. - "late"
Must try: Currants and cream
Specialty menu items: Earl Grey tea-flavored ice cream. Smokey and delicious.
Least expensive menu items: Small ice cream, $4.90
Most expensive menu items: Pint of ice cream, $8.90
4. The Mud Truck
Where: Astor Place right in front of the 6 train entrance
When: Everyday, 7 p.m. - 7 a.m. during the week; 9 a.m. - 7 p.m. weekends
Must try: The "Mud" coffee
Specialty menu items: The Red Eye: a shot of espresso in a regular coffee. $3 for a small, $4 for a large, priceless for an all-nighter
Most expensive menu items: Iced mint mochaccino, $6
Least expensive menu items: Small coffee, $1.50
5. Kimchi Taco Truck
Where: University Place and Waverly Place, and Astor Place
When: Beginning at the end of August: Monday-Friday 4 p.m. - 5:45 p.m. at University; and thereafter at Astor until 9 p.m.
Must try: The BBQ grilled short rib tacos, 3 for $7
Specialty menu items: Every dish has kimchi in it. Check out their vegetarian options, including the falafel taco with edamame, or a more carnivore-friendly option, such as the kimchi cheesesteak
Least expensive menu items: All sides are $3, including rice cakes, nachos and straight-up kimchi
Most expensive menu items: The fresh kimchi bowl — like a burrito bowl with Korean flare — costs $8
