What a Relief! Peeing Dog Spots Inert Grenade Next to Brooklyn Tree

By Amy Zimmer | August 14, 2012 1:45pm

MIDWOOD — A dog answering the call of nature sparked an emergency call when he paused to relieve himself  next to a half-buried grenade Tuesday morning.

The dog's owner called police after spotting the green lump near a tree at Ocean Parkway and Kings Highway around 9:15 a.m.

Officers determined shortly after that the weapon was inert, deeming the area safe once again for pedestrians and pooches.

It was a "novelty" grenade, a police spokesman said, noting that it the kind of gift that's either a replica or an old grenade hollowed out.
