Broadway Stars Serenade Crowds at Bryant Park

By DNAinfo Staff on August 9, 2012 5:16pm

MIDTOWN — Stars from some of Broadway's hottest musicals performed in Bryant Park on Thursday.

The series of free lunchtime performances, 106.7 Lite FM's Broadway in Bryant Park, have taken place each Thursday afternoon through August 16, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.

"Chicago" stars Donna Marie Asbury and Dylis Croman performed crowd-pleasing numbers like "All That Jazz" and "Roxie." The show was revived in 1996 and holds the record for longest running musical revival on Broadway.

Stars from Broadway's "Evita" also took to the stage, with veteran performer Max von Essen taking the role of Juan Peron in the 2012 revival of the show.

Jackie Rees, 26, and her mother Wendy watched excitedly as the cast of 'Newsies' entered the Bryant Park stage.

"I've seen in twice," said Rees, who moved to New York a month ago to try and make it as a singer on Broadway. She said that her ideal role would be Christine from the musical "Phantom of the Opera."

"Something with more singing and less dancing," she added.

Erin Nolan, 31, from Astoria said she enjoys Broadway musicals and had seen all five shows being performed at Bryant Park.

"The girl that did Velma in Chicago," was Nolan's favorite performer, she added.
