NEW YORK CITY — That wasn't Clairol.

A woman arriving was caught at JFK airport trying to smuggle a bag full of heroin into the country from Colombia by hiding it inside hair products, customs officials revealed Thursday.

Emilce Cardona was allegedly discovered with 8 pounds of a heroin mixed with hair product when she passed through customs on July 25.

The drugs were hidden in 38 packets of Repara Deep-T hair product, officials said.

"This latest seizure demonstrates the steadfastness of the CBP [U.S. Customs and Border Protection] officers on the ground to detect, detain and deter those who would try to import these illegal substances," said Robert E. Perez, Director, Field Operations New York.

"CBP is ever vigilant in our daily battle in combating the flow of illicit narcotics from entering the United States."

Cardona faces federal drug smuggling charges, according to officials.
