INWOOD — The classic neighborhood diner Park View Cafe Restaurant is closing its doors on Sunday for renovations.
The Inwood establishment located on 219 Dyckman St. is shedding its brown and peach decor for an upgraded modern interior with new floors and a renovated kitchen.
"We'll try to make a new style diner, but keep the food," said restaurant owner Athina Anton who runs the business with her family, serving classic diner foods like burgers, fries and all-American breakfast.
The Park View Cafe Restaurant's renovations are expected to last two to three months with an anticipated reopening date at the end of October.
The Antons' decided last year to renovate their family-run diner, which they have operated for more than 38 years. The family moved the diner to its current location from across the street in 2001.
Wait staff and kitchen employees at Park View Cafe Restaurant will have to seek other employment during the restaurant's temporary closure.
"They'll get other jobs or maybe come back when we open," Anton said as she sat at one of the diner's booths.
The Anton family owns and operates two other Inwood restaurants — Garden Cafe and Inwood Local.
