HELL'S KITCHEN — With Moynihan Station set to become the city's newest transit hub, another harbinger of the future wants to give New Yorkers a sneak peak at the new train station.
Google is sponsoring a first look at the old James Farley Post Office building next week that will allow hardhat-wearing visitors the chance to see the complex's European-esque expansion under the historic building.
In order to guarantee a spot on the August 16 tour, participants must write 25 "new, high quality reviews" of New York places on Google+ Local, the search engine giant's directory of city businesses.
That may seem like a lot of work for a tour, but 16 people have already signed up, according to Google's event invite.
In July, Amtrak revealed new plans for the train depot inside the James Farley Post Office Building on Eighth Avenue between West 31st and West 33rd Streets. The $267 million project will shift Amtrak service from Penn Station to a more attractive space beneath the post office.
Construction on the project has already begun and is expected to be completed by 2016. The post office remains open, with work happening underneath it.
