Queens Pop-up Market Brings Local Delicacies to Hunters Point

HUNTERS POINT — Prepare for a feast, LIC foodies.

The Queens County Market — a monthly pop-up food event that supports local food entrepreneurs — is coming to Hunters Point this Saturday, featuring healthy quinoa snacks from Iheartkeenwah and fresh baked frozen cookies from Cookie Fairy Sweets.

It’s the first time the market, founded earlier this year and until now held at Sunnyside Community Services, is coming to the neighborhood.

“The market was always intended to launch in different communities and after three events in Sunnyside, it was time for Long Island City,” said Katrina Schultz Richter, the market's founder.

Among other vendors offering their products, will be Spicy’n Sweet, selling sauces and pestos inspired by the Calabria region of Italy, Chulita’s Famous offering all-natural Latin sofritos and Veda’s Cakes & Catering with its Guyanese style vegetarian rotis and chicken patties.

There will also be some sweet treats, including Indian-spiced plaintain chips from Sweet Silk.

“The market's mission is to connect Queens communities with local food businesses,” Schultz Richter said, adding that most of the artisans produce their treats in Long Island City.

The Laughing Devil Comedy Club located at 47-38 Vernon Blvd. in Hunters Point will host the market from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

It will also be serving 14 beers on tap, including Sixpoint and Brooklyn Blast, both brewed in New York.
