WILLIAMSBURG — A 29-year-old man was shot five times at a bustling Williamsburg street corner Friday night by a man who was spotted by several witnesses before he fled the scene, police said.

A 911 call came in at 10:44 p.m. Friday from 146 Bedford Ave., saying a man had been shot, police said.

The victim, who police said lived right near where the shooting took place, had suffered five gunshot wounds to the lower portion of his body, one in his torso, the FDNY said.

The victim was transported to Bellevue Hospital, and was considered not likely to die as of Saturday, cops said.

Police said a man fled the scene following the shooting, and was described as heavyset, 5-foot-7, weighing about 220 pounds, and wearing a beige shirt, with a collar.

The shooting took place in front of Kasia's Restaurant, a diner at the corner of North 9th Street, witnesses said.

"It was completely quiet beforehand," said Kelly Roberts, 38, who lives upstairs from where the shooting occurred. "Everyone's a little freaked out. I've been here nine years, and nothing like this has ever happened."
