'Dark Knight Rises' Midnight Showings Draw Legions of Batman Fans

NEW YORK CITY — It was a busy night in Gotham.

Big Apple movie theaters were packed with superfans itching to see the final installment of Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy, “The Dark Knight Rises,” Thursday night.

The film, starring Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway, officially opens Friday, but screenings of the movie started immediately after midnight across the country.

While most showings sold out in ticket pre-sales, fans still lined up for for blocks while waiting to get their seats. Many took advantage of the impromptu party, dressing as their favorite Batman characters.

The film's star-studded premiere Monday night drew co-stars Morgan Freeman, Marion Cottilard, Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
