UPPER WEST SIDE — To find a one-bedroom apartment in Manhattan with asking a price of less than $500,000 is a rare thing.

To find one on in a luxury co-op on an Upper West Side tree-lined block south of 96th Street is even rarer.

But to find this and discover the unit has character and charm to spare... well, that’s a Deal of the Week.

In addition its price point and location, apartment #1G at “The Westwind” on West 93rd Street also manages to avoid the pitfalls that one associates with cheaper one-bedrooms in the neighborhood.

Despite being a unit on the ground floor off the lobby, the apartment feels well-lit and set apart from the rest of the building.

Even more pleasantly surprising is how the unit succeeds in turning a potentially disastrous architectural feature (a load-bearing wall that runs between the dining room/foyer and living room), into a major plus by making the space feel oddly larger than it actually is by creating the impression of having two rooms in one.

That spacious effect is heightened by the recent renovations: new floors, kitchen appliances and windows.

But the overall feel of the place is what makes it such a bargain for the price, the listing broker, Bonnie Rindner of Fenwick Keats, summed up.

“This apartment is really the best of both worlds,” says Rindner. “It feels as quiet and private as living in your own home, but it has all the benefits and convenience of an Upper West Side luxury co-op.”
