NEW YORK CITY — War wounded heroes were cheered by thousands as they paraded through Queens and Staten Island.

The event, part of the Wounded Warrior Project, took the injured soldiers from the Rockaways and across the Verrazano Bridge on Thursday, cheered by supporters including actor James Gandolfini, who played Tony Soprano in HBO show "The Sopranos."

"This is always a great parade and it's wonderful to see so many people out on the streets to show their support for all our wounded vets and to really remind people that there are wars still going on," he said.

The Wounded Warrior Project is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to "honor and empower wounded warriors."
