MIDTOWN — Steve Martin was spotted at West 57th Street and Broadway in Midtown on Wednesday.

He was apparently performing a gag for the "Late Show with David Letterman," according to a tweet he sent earlier in the day.

"I’ll be appearing in a pre-taped running gag on the Letterman show tonight. Set your Betamaxes!" Martin tweeted.

Martin stood at the grassy intersection of West 57th Street and Broadway next to a sign that proclaiming the area "Steve Martin Park."

Around Martin's neck hung a tray filled with beer cans, bottles of scotch whiskey, vodka and fake guns as he stood next to signs that read "Smoking and Drinking Allowed" and "Try My Pot."

Martin and the team of actors participating in the gag, stood under a banner that said "Free Midnight Concert By The Rolling Stones."

While several onlookers recognized the actor, one couple peered curiously at Martin before the man remarked, "Alec Baldwin?"

Martin was a regular on "Saturday Night Live" and his latest major film, "The Big Year," was released last year.
