BROOKLYN — McCarren Park Pool was shut down for the third time Monday afternoon — but this time it wasn't violence that cleared the water.
Lifeguards evacuated the 37,950-foot pool at noon after a child had a diaper accident, a Parks Department spokeswoman said. The pool was closed for about 20 minutes.
Brawls had already closed down the pool twice since it opened June 28 after a $50 million renovation. It had been shuttered for nearly 30 years.
A police officer was allegedly punched in the face during a melee last Monday that resulted in three arrests, and lifeguards were reportedly attacked just one day after the pool's ribbon-cutting ceremony, which featured remarks by the mayor and parks commissioner.
Police and the Parks Department have since beefed-up security at the pool, adding barricades, police officers and Parks Department staff.
