New Austin Street Consignment Store Sells Designer Looks for Less

By Nigel Chiwaya | June 26, 2012 12:47pm

Openings

Shoppers looking for designer clothing at a discounted price can rejoice, because the upscale consignment chain Second Time Around has opened up at 70-49 Austin St.., near 71st Street. According to worker Danielle Washienko, Second Time Around, which opened on June 15, caters to modern clothing options, with special attention given to high end, designer-label items.

"The stuff you'd find in Neiman Marcus or Sak's Fifth Avenue," Washienko said.

Closings

Marianella's Taqueria, a Mexican restaurant on 106-11 71st Ave., closed in mid-June. "It has been our pleasure serving you this past year," a sign taped to the front door reads, "but it is time to close our doors."

On the Horizon

The recent opening of the wine store Mr. Vino, at 107-02 71st Ave. gave Forest Hills residents an option for upscale wines. Soon they'll be able to complete their pairings with gourmet cheeses, as Cucina, a cheese and gourmet store by the same owner, has put up a "coming soon" sign on Austin Street and 71st Avenue.

Nichaolas Protopapas, the owner of both stores, says that beyond cheeses, Cucina will offer olive oils, caviar, spreads, imported beers and host wine tastings. Protopapas said that he hopes to open Cucina within the next two months.
