GREENWOOD HEIGHTS — A tractor-trailer making a left turn in a busy Brooklyn thoroughfare crashed into a parked car, pinning the female driver behind the wheel Monday, witnesses said.
The truck was travelling northbound on Fourth Avenue in Greenwood Heights, and tried to make a left turn onto 25th Street at 12:40 p.m., according to witnesses, when the right side of the trailer's tail end clipped a parked SUV with a woman inside.
The woman was transported to Lutheran Hospital after the collision in serious but stable condition, the FDNY said.
"If it wasn't for some kid telling the guy about the lady, he would have kept going," said Johnny Suliman, who works at the 4th Avenue Deli and Grill at 751 Fourth Ave., near where the accident occurred.
"The lady was screaming, she was scared for her life," he said.
In was unclear what the trailer, which had been dispatched by Triple D Supply, a Las Cruces, New Mexico-based refrigerated freight trucking company, was in town delivering, according to a dispatcher speaking on behalf of the company.
When asked if they knew what had caused the accident, Don, who did not want his last name used, said, "Not now, we're still investigating."
At the scene Monday, several witnesses stated the driver had been making a turn in the wrong direction on the one-way 25th Street, but Don, when asked if he knew whether that was true, said, "'m not aware of that, but we're still in the investigation stage of what happened."
Police said there had been no report of the accident as of Monday afternoon, and it was unclear immediately what had caused the trailer to hit the SUV.
