BROOKLYN — A 17-year-old girl was killed early Saturday in a car accident on the Prospect Expressway in Gowaus.

According to police, Shi Ying Wu, 17, of Flushing, was riding in the back seat of a Mercedes on the Prospect Expressway, at 5:40 a.m., as the roadway merged with the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway.

Police said Wu was riding with three other passengers in the car and the driver. An early investigation found that the driver lost control of the car and struck a concrete median near where the roads intersect, which caused the vehicle to overturn.

Upon arrival, police said Wu unconscious and unresponsive, and had suffered severe trauma to the body. Rescuers pronounced the girl dead at the scene of the accident. The driver of the vehicle and three other passengers were transported to nearby hospitals for minor injuries, police said.

Police said it appeared there were no signs of criminality, but that an investigation was ongoing.
