BROOKLYN — A man was shot and killed in Bedford-Stuyvesant early Tuesday morning, authorities said.

Calvin Smith, 34, was shot multiple times in the head and torso in front of 385 Gates Ave. shortly before 2 a.m., the NYPD said.

"I heard the shots, and a I heard a woman screaming," said a resident who lived nearby but declined to give his name.

Police found Smith lying on the sidewalk at the address, less than 10 blocks from his home on Jefferson Avenue. He was transported to Kings County Hospital and pronounced dead.

At Smith's home nearby on Jefferson Avenue, relatives were too distraught to talk about their loss.

"The family's really going through something right now," one loved one, who declined to give her name, said.

A black BMW surrounded by police tape was parked at the scene Tuesday morning as cops investigated, with bullet shell casings on the ground near the vehicle.

Witnesses described hearing the shots, as well as screams following the gunfire.

"When it starts getting hot, that's when it starts getting a little crazy over here," said Diana Vargas, who lives on the block and said she was awoken by the noise. "You here more gunshots".

Another resident of the block who said she called 911 described hearing a trio of gunshots.

"I heard 'pom pom pom,' three shots, and then I heard a lady screaming, screaming," said the woman, Marion, who declined to provide her last name.

"I called 911, I was so scared. I told the cops I'm not going outside."

An investigation is ongoing.
