Adding ramen to the Smith Street menu

A ramen noodle restaurant dubbed Dassara has taken over the space that was once home to Chestnut bar, at 271 Smith St., adding more Asian cuisine to the restaurant row. Though the restaurant has yet to open, an artist has provided a clue as to what to expect, gracing the roll down gate at the space with a mural of a bowl of hot noodles.

Last month, Dassara appeared before Community Board Six in hopes of getting a green light for an on-site liquor license. The public safety committee approved the proposal on May 30, but it still needs to be voted on by the full board at the community board’s general meeting on Wednesday.

On the Horizon

An Italian restaurant called Ciro’s is opening at 307 Smith St., formerly the home of Fall Café. The restaurant is currently hiring waiters, busboys and bartenders, and will be open to the public on June 20.
