GOVERNORS ISLAND — Hundreds of free arts events are on the way to Governors Island this weekend, for the annual FIGMENT NYC festival.

The two-day arts extravaganza features performers, installations and activities for all ages, along with an interactive sculpture garden, an artist-designed miniature-golf course and a treehouse.

Visitors to the island can don an inflatable costume to ride a bike, get covered in elaborate body paint, play table tennis using their brainwaves, crochet plastic bags, battle with foam weapons and even get married to themselves in a faux Las Vegas-inspired ceremony.

Dancers, actors and performance artists will roam the island throughout the day, displaying their talents or inviting audience members to join in and become performers themselves.

"FIGMENT is an explosion of creative energy," the festival says on its website. "It’s a free, annual celebration of participatory art and culture where everything is possible. For one weekend each summer, it transforms Governors Island into a large-scale collaborative artwork — and then it’s gone."

FIGMENT will take place June 9 and 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Governors Island, rain or shine. Ferries to the island leave regularly from the Battery Maritime Building, 10 South St., and from Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park.
