Man Killed on Coney Island in Possible Gang Attack, Police Say

BROOKLYN — A man was found dead on a Coney Island street early Monday after being stabbed multiple times and suffering head injuries, authorities said.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was discovered in front of 2814 W. 15th St. at about 2 a.m., NYPD officials said.

"I ran to the hall and called 911," said Maria Prendergast, an office manager who has lived there since 1995. "When I look out, you see someone laying down in front of my house."

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

A police source said the killing came as a result of a possible gang-on-gang assault.

But residents said shootings and other crime were a rarity in the neighborhood.

"I have lived here for 17 years and it's the first time I see something like that," said Roberto Abiles.

Prendergast, too, said she feels safe in the neighborhood.

"It's very quiet...sometimes my door is even open," she said.

Police said the investigation into the fatal shooting was ongoing.
