BROOKLYN — A worker in a Bath Beach building suffered head injuries after falling down an elevator shaft Monday morning, according to the FDNY.

The victim, a man approximately 57 years old, fell four feet down the shaft while working at 2056 Cropsey Avenue just after 10 a.m., fire officials said.

The worker was taken to Lutheran Medical Center in serious condition with head trauma, an FDNY spokesman said.

The Department of Buildings was investigating the incident, a spokesman said. The FDNY reported a "defective elevator resulted in an incident," according to the DOB website.

The Shore Haven Apartments, the owner of the property, did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
