WOODHAVEN — A road collapsed at the site of a Department of Transportation construction site Saturday, causing a temporary closure across Atlantic Avenue, officials said.

The collapse occurred on Atlantic Avenue between Woodhaven Boulevard and 92nd Street early Saturday, causing delays in traffic and the Long Island Rail Road.

By Saturday afternoon just the westbound traffic lane was still closed, but LIRR delays on weekend service were expected to continue.

An MTA spokesperson said the incident happened when sand being used for the ongoing road work at the location  was washed out, following Friday night's heavy rainfall.
