MARINE PARK — A woman walking past a McDonald's on Flatbush Avenue was struck and killed when a minivan crashed through the restaurant's front window Thursday afternoon, officials said.

The 64-year-old victim, who police have identified as Phyllis Pitt, who lived blocks away on Ryder Street, was near the front of the McDonald's at 2240 Flatbush Ave. when a Nissan Quest driven by an elderly woman reversed, pinned her against the window and crashed into the restaurant, FDNY and NYPD officials said.

"It sounded like an explosion," said Herman Morales, an MTA bus driver who was in the restaurant at the time of the crash. "When we looked the lady was behind the vehicle. She was hurt.

"Everyone was shook up," he added. "This is sad, terrible. It could have been anybody."

The driver of the minivan, who was trying to parallel park at the time of the crash, was not charged in the incident, police said. She remained at the scene, police said.

Pitt was rushed to the hospital and declared dead, police said.

Two other victims suffered minor injuries, an FDNY spokesman said.

The front of the eatery was roped off by police tape Thursday, and two panes of glass were missing from the front of the store.
