THE BRONX — A 3-year-old boy was hospitalized after he was savaged by a pit bull in a South Bronx park, according to the NYPD and reports.

Ely Gordilis was playing in Fox Playground at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday when the dog, tied to a nearby bicycle rack, allegedly lunged at him, CBS New York reported.

Gordilis sustained cuts to his upper lip and neck, the NYPD and CBS said. He was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital in The Bronx, where he received 28 stitches.

The dog, an 11-month-old named Bella, was taken home by its owner, CBS reported. Animals are not allowed in the playground, but the space is adjacent to an enclosed dog run, according to the city's Parks and Recreation Department.
