THE BRONX — Gunfire erupted outside of the Melrose Library Monday afternoon, police and library workers said.

Shots rang out at approximately 2 p.m. near the library, located at 910 Morris Avenue near East 162nd Street, police said.

"There was a gunshot right outside, and we saw a person running by really fast," a worker at the library told DNAinfo.com New York.

It was not immediately clear if anyone had been hit, police said.
