QUEENS — Westbound lanes on the Long Island Expressway were partially closed Monday ahead of the evening rush after an accident on the highway, authorities said.

The city's Office of Emergency Management said that the westbound roadway was closed between Maurice and Greenpoint avenues after the accident around 2 p.m.

It was not immediately clear what caused the crash or if there were injuries.

The lanes were reopened a short time later, but heavy delays were expected, OEM said.
