Apparent Murder-Suicide at Hilton Near Kennedy Airport

QUEENS — A 47-year-old gunman shot and killed a 31-year-old man inside a hotel near Kennedy Airport and then shot himself in an apparent murder-suicide, law enforcement officials said.

At around 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Gary Zalevsky shot Brian Weiss inside the Hilton Garden Inn at 148-30 134th St. in South Ozone Park, cops said.

Zalevsky then turned the gun on himself, police said.

Both men, who lived on Florida, were pronounced dead at the scene.

"It appears to be a murder-suicide," said Queens District Attorney Richard Brown. "Beyond that, everything is under investigation."

Police said Friday they were looking into the relationship of the men, though a source said they were known to each other and may have been business associates.

Brown said some individuals were gathered on the ground floor in the hotel when one of them got up and started blasting.

"There were a group of individuals meeting in the area just off the lobby and one of the individuals stood up, fired the weapon on another, and then took his own life," he said.

The other individuals at the table were being interviewed by authorities, Brown added.

"At the moment, no one is under arrest," he said. "But there are a number of people at the table in custody."
