Danny Meyer Wants to Run 1 WTC Observation Deck, Report Says

LOWER MANHATTAN — Top-notch restaurateurs including Danny Meyer are lining up to run the observation deck at 1 World Trade Center, according to a report.

Meyer, who owns Shake Shack and Blue Smoke, is one of seven potential operators who bid Monday to run the three-story observation deck, which will stand a dizzying 1,241 feet above the ground, the New York Times reported.

Other companies that submitted proposals include Montparnasse 56 USA, which runs the roof terrace at Montparnasse Tower in Paris; Legends Hospitality Management, which handles the food at Yankee Stadium; Aramark, a catering and corporate food group; and Anthony Malkin, who operates the Empire State Building, the Times reported.

The proposals would charge visitors $20 to $25 to take high-speed elevators up to the observatory on the skyscraper's 100th to 102nd floors, according to the Times. The viewing deck could bring in $100 million per year, the Times reported.

The David M. Childs-designed 1 World Trade Center will stand 1,776 feet tall when it opens as soon as 2014. Tenants including Conde Nast have already signed leases for space in the 2.6 million-square-foot skyscraper.

A spokesman for the Port Authority, which is building the tower, declined to comment.
