MANHATTAN - The New York Rangers won the first game of the opening round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, defeating the Ottawa Senators 4-2 at Madison Square Garden Thursday night.

The Blueshirts led 4-0 in the third period on goals from captain Ryan Callahan, Marion Gaborik, Brian Boyle and Brad Richards.

Daniel Alfredsson and Erik Condra scored late goals for the Sens but Ottawa couldn't muster any more against Ranger goalie Henrik Lundqvist, who was chosen as the No. 1 star of the game.

The best-of-seven series resumes Saturday night at MSG.
