Police Hunting Suit-Wearing Burglar Targeting UES Apartments, Stores

MANHATTAN — Police are hunting a couture criminal wanted for a string of break-ins on the Upper East Side.

The stylish suspect — who was caught on surveillance footage sporting a snazzy suit and long overcoat — struck five times over the past two months, breaking into apartments and retail stores and making off with jewelry and electronic equipment, NYPD officials said.

The first incident took place some time between Feb. 6 and 11, when the well-dressed burglar entered an apartment on East 64th Street through a balcony entrance, stealing several watches, police said.

Later that month, between Feb. 19 and 27, he ransacked an apartment on East 62nd Street but did not take any property, police said. Around that same time, he also broke into an apartment on East 63rd Street through a window and stole a laptop and some jewelry, police noted.

Then, on the evening hours of Friday, Feb. 24, the suspect entered the Antonio Tincati clothing store at 20 E. 63rd St. It's not clear what, if anything, he stole, police said.

More than a month later, on March 30, the suspect broke into an apartment on East 60th Street through a skylight and pried open an inside door to access the Carlos De La Puente Antiques store, where he stole a laptop computer, camera and some jewelry, police said.

Police describe the man as between 25 and 30 years old, 6 feet 1 inch tall and about 180 pounds. In one incident, he was seen wearing a dark overcoat, a dark suit and gloves.
