MANHATTAN — Work to make pavement in the Holland Tunnel more skid resistant will close lanes of the tunnel overnight for two weekends this month, officials said.
The westbound lanes of the Holland Tunnel connecting Manhattan to New Jersey will be closed Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22 from 1a.m. to 8 a.m., according to the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.
The eastbound lanes of the tunnel will be closed Saturday, April 14 and Sunday, April 15 from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m.
New Jersey-bound drivers will be diverted from Hudson Square to the Lincoln Tunnel via the West Side Highway and Hudson Street, according to the Port Authority advisory.
Manhattan-bound drivers will be redirected to the Lincoln Tunnel via Marin Boulevard North and Marin Boulevard South in Jersey City.

Details on the number and cause of accidents in the Holland Tunnel was not immediately available.
The work to retexture the tunnel roadway will be done using a truck that fires steel balls onto the pavement to shatter it and make it more skid-resistant.
The truck will pick up the steel balls once the work is done.
