MANHATTAN — A homeless man who lives near Penn Station was arrested Tuesday for setting more than a dozen fires in Midtown trash cans over the past two weeks, FDNY officials said.

Initial reports indicated that the suspect in the arson spree was a woman in her 50s who was wheeling a shopping cart — but that turned out not to be the case.

Armondo Calderon, 56, is suspected of starting five fires in garbage cans near 41st Street and Park Avenue on March 5, fire officials said.

Calderon, who sources said has an arrest record, allegedly set another 10 fires near 41st Street and Fifth Avenue Monday, officials said.

He will be charged with 15 incidents of arson and criminal mischief. A motive was not immediately clear, officials said.
