BROOKLYN — Firefighters battled a huge blaze that destroyed a Gravesend storefront early Wednesday morning, FDNY officials said.

Roughly 30 people were evacuated from neighboring buildings as the 4-alarm fire raged at Dalmazio Imports at 1721 W. 6th St. near Kings Highway, fire officials said. The cause of the blaze was not immediately clear, but fire officials were investigating the scene.

The fire broke out at roughly 4:15 a.m., officials said, and flames could be scene shooting out through the front windows of the store. It took 170 firefighters to get the fire under control just after 7 a.m., fire officials said.

There were "heavy fire conditions coming out of the front windows," said FDNY Asst. Chief Spadafora. "Large body of fire. [Firefighters] had to force entry into the building."

Fire officials said the fire caused extensive structural damage, and the roof collapsed.

One person in a building behind Dalmazio Imports suffered shortness of breath, the chief said. The person was taken to Maimonides Medical Center, a fire official said.

The injury did not appear to be life-threatening, Spadafora said.

There were no other injuries, officials said.
