MANHATTAN — A fire broke out in the basement of a Harlem high-rise Wednesday afternoon, filling the building with smoke, fire officials said.

The FDNY arrived at 230 W. 129th St., near Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard, a little after 2 p.m., a spokesman said.

The fire originated in the building’s basement, where the compactor is located, the spokesman explained.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. It was not immediately clear if there were injuries.
