MANHATTAN — A group of NYU students, including Gristedes heiress Andrea Catsimatidis Cox, are throwing their support behind Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich — at an all-girls pajama jamboree.

Photos first published by campus news blog NYU Local show six girls declaring their Newt love in matching pink pajama pants and "Newt 2012" tee-shirts.

"We spent the night discussing Newt Gingrich and the 2012 race against Obama and watching political movies," Cox, a member of the NYU College Republicans, told BuzzFeed.com

"Overall, it was a fun evening and …  a creative way to show our support for our favorite candidate."

NYU College Republicans, which does not officially endorse candidates as a group, is planning on leading campus discussions on Obama's economic policies, club president Corina Cappabianca said by email.

"We are specifically dissatisfied with the large accumulation of national debt, as well as the passage of a nationally mandated healthcare law under the current administration," she said.

"I look forward to campaigning for Newt Gingrich and believe that he has the best solutions to address these issues, among others."

Photos of the slumber party, which took place in the past two weeks, originated from Cox's Facebook page and were sent to NYU Local by an anonymous tipster, its co-editor-in-chief Zoë Schlanger said.
