Thieves Steal City Truck and Crash Into UES Store, Injuring Four, Cops Say

UPPER EAST SIDE — A pair of thieves stole a city truck and crashed into a cab before careening into a store on First Avenue near East 87th Street late Friday, injuring four, police said.

The two male suspects stole the Department of Environmental Protection truck from a parking lot on Pike Street Downtown before taking it on a wild ride across Manhattan that ended with the vehicle smashing into a barbershop at 1662 First Ave. shortly after 11 p.m., the NYPD said.

A yellow cab was also struck during the spree, sending its driver to New York Hospital in stable condition, police said.

The suspects also struck vehicles at East 74th Street and Park Avenue, East 79th Street and Park Avenue, and East 82nd Street and First Avenue, where they injured man who was taken to Lenox Hill Hospital in stable condition, police added.

The men, 32 and 35 years old, were arrested and taken to New York-Presbyterian Hospital in stable condition, police said.

Charges are pending.
